Optimal is working with Toyota UK and the Carbon Trust in monitoring the utility consumption performance of a number of Toyota’s car dealerships across the country.

Establishing the optimal utility profile of a typical Toyota car dealership, benchmarks the optimal utility and energy consumption profile for each dealership based upon department (parts, sales, workshops) time, of day, day of week, and week of year was calculated.

Energy consumption targets have now been further refined account for fluctuations in external air temperatures. Heating consumption targets vary in automatically or the external temperature changes. For example, because there can be cold days in summer and vice versa. Toyota identified that in order to successfully operate such complicated targeting rules, real time information was required both at a local and central management level.

Toyota chose Optimal’s unique real time system to achieve this. The target criteria were entered into Optimal’s system, together with access real time nationwide weather information from the Met Office. The Optimal system then automatically calculates variances against the targets and provides immediate alerts to Toyota management whenever the benchmark profile is exceeded. The Carbon Trust has fully endorsed Optimal’s system, as delivering everything required by both the Carbon Trust and Toyota, to assist Toyota in achieving its goal of becoming carbon neutral.
